Most other bicycle shop around Bedok really sucks, except for Ong Heng Bee, managed to get my small stuff. The other shop just shoo you away with terrible attitude. This shop helps you out. Thanks!

Ricky Ong is β€œmy guy” to perform wide range of modifications & repairs at affordable prices for my bicycle (and also my families, cousins, friends, friends of friends, acquaintances & the list goes on). If you’re nipping around the neighbourhood or running some quick errands, there are heaps of reasons to snag yourself here. It’s a place that brings a sense of community & joy.

Other name brand shops waved me away - pointing to the sign hung out on their glass doors saying "No walk-in repairs". Another asked me to book an appointment on their website, or use Facebook messenger to talk to their chatbot... Frustrated, all I wanted was to shorten my bike chain. A two minute job at best, and my chain link remover tool decided to give up on me. Google brought me here, and I ran over, chain wrapped up in a red plastic bag, weighing down my office slacks. Closes at 7pm Maps said, and I cursed my block headedness in running with black leather work shoes. A wrong turn and anxiety set in, before I reached at 6.58pm, peering into the half shop. Nobody was in, I looked around, puzzled. Then a short cough and raspy clearing of throat led me to turn around, staring right at this old man sat on a small chair, smoking and gazing up from his phone. Yeessss? he drawled... I stammered that I wanted to break the chain at this link, fishing out the metal snake from my pocket. He looked, grabbed the chain to feel its heft and beckoned for me to follow him to the shop. In one smooth motion he half knelt at his toolbox to fish out his own chain link remover... And this is surely the mark of a community figure: as he fiddled with the chain, an elderly Malay gentleman passed by and without skipping a beat, he said, Apa Khabar, and they exchanged pleasantries in Malay. And right behind that, an elderly Indian gentleman came by, asking if he has had his dinner yet. Kampung spirit indeed... It took him 4 turns with the tool and he popped out the offensive pin. Placed the extra link into my outstretched palm, and the chain in my other and he started walking back to his chair. Uncle, how much? I started after him... But with a short wave of his hand, and a grunt of approval, he smiled and said, No need. Then resumed to sit down, smokes in one hand, phone in the other.
