Staff at Hougang had extremely BAD attitude! Kept using phone and didn’t bother to even address me OR my dad. Even when we said “we want to buy”. If the staff keeps up, it’ll be no surprise that eventually no customers will buy. Bad service. Didn’t even get to try the Mala that people have been complimenting about.

Saw the good reviews and decided to give this random industrial area Mala spot a shot, which turned out to be a pleasant surprise. First up, you can’t take your own ingredients, i.e. a serving assistant does that for you after asking for the no of pax eating. I for one appreciated this as I have a tendency for over-ordering when it comes to mala, and the allocated portion size was pretty spot on here. Secondly, they had a wide variety of ingredients, which included gizzards and intestines as well. Thirdly, their processed foods like the cheese tofu and sausages were fresh and did not taste weird like the tons of others at other mala spots. Lastly, asked for less oil and they duly delivered. The medium spicy level was on point and the ma and la flavours were well balanced indeed. While this place is rather ulu, will definitely drop by again when I have the chance!

Good mala concept, at down-to-earth prices. Unlike the typical Mala stalls that charge by weight, here you get charged a fixed price based on the portions selected. $1 for any vegetable, $2 for meats, and $3 for beef/lamb/seafood. This way, you know in ADVANCE how much you'll be paying.

One of the cheapest mala u can find in Singapore. Tasty, but slightly on the oily side. Should ask for less oil if you can’t take oily stuff, But definitely worth the price.

Fragrant and nice mala xiang guo. Not too oily if you request for it. Portion is alright and reasonable as well. It's great that they sell by portion and not by weight. The pricing is really affordable overall. I paid $15 for my dish in the photo. Highly recommended to patronize!

Update: over the months their serving has drastically decreased therefore changing rating to 1 star. $14 would be the serving for 1 person. Aug 2021: One of the better Ma la xiang guo in the Ubi area. The ingredients are determined by portion and not by weight so you have a rough idea of how much you will be paying and the portion they give is pretty generous.

Affordable and authentic simple Chinese dishes found here. A plate of spicy crispy chicken (辣子鸡), cost only $10. Vibrant in colour, aromatic in taste, the chicken chunks had absorbed all the flavours from the seasoning, making it hot and spicy. Twice Cooked Pork (回锅肉), cost $8 a plate. Pork belly was well seasoned and the meat was very tendery. Covered in a rich scrumptious sauce which was slightly sweet and spicy, bursting with unami taste. Simply irresistible and addictive, making us coming back here for more.
