Soba sauce was a bit too salty for me,but soba noodle itself was a good taste and reasonable. I’d like to visit again when I crave for Japanese food.

3.5 stars. I quite like the soba and the tempura, in terms of taste, texture and freshness. -1.5 stars cos the tempura was served lukewarm, even though I specifically asked if the tempura would be refried before serving, and the chef said yes. He was generally nice though.

Very pricy $9 for plain udon, over at tamoya udon at plaza sing you would be having a hearty bowl of udon complete with egg and charsiew at the same price. Tempura is average. 3rd time patronizing before this review.

I tried Tanuki hot soba. Soup is not so hot. I recommend cold soba.

I pay 18 dollars for this is meal. The quality is so low and the tempura is cold. Really insane and not worth it. Chef was so rude and moody - could tell he does not even like his job. Someone should get to the bottom of this restaurant or else I guarantee it will close down. Pls don’t even think about eating here. Waste ur time and money

Probably due to less diners, the Tempura seems to be left out for a while. It's still crispy but it's just not the same as freshly fried Tempura. Overall still ok.

I will not recommend this shop. The standard at Soba Maruki has dropped since about 9 months ago. Sent Hokkaido Marche a message om Facebook but no response. 1. My girlfriend and I both were served broken soba, hidden beneath the surface of unbroken noodles. Much of the noodles was broken into short pieces that made it difficult to use chopsticks with. 2. I asked for Soba yu, the water which the soba is cooked in. It was definitely not soba yu, because my experience in Japan tells me that yu isn't that clear and tasteless. There's a wheat-y flavour, and the water is cloudier. What Soba Maruki served was warm water. 3. I don't have photos of the tempura, but the flour was too heavily soaked with oil. Soba and soup stock, texture and flavour-wise, is still ok. But the rest of it, plus the non-response to a complaint, rates it a 2. It is not wise to waste your money and calories here.

Located within Hokkaido Marche at Basement 2 of Orchard Central, next to the elevators, is Soba Maruki that specialises in serving Soba and Udon with Tempura style food. The original Soba Maruki is from Sapporo, Hokkaido, and has been around since 1889! Craving for some Cold Soba, decided to give this place a try. One could either order a set where the items are pre-set or one could order a base of Udon or Soba, and then pick the tempura food. Decided to order a large serving of Cold Soba and then selected Tempura Mushroom, Tamago, Sliced Lotus Root, Crab Stick and Eggplant. The soba was refreshing and enjoyable with its dipping sauce, while the Tempura Food were yummy. My only complaint is that I found the soba a little too wheaty. General Verdict: An overseas outlet of a Japanese eatery that serves up casual dining of Soba and Udon with Tempura food to cure the cravings of eating in Japan. Would consider a return visit if feeling hungry in the area and there were long queues everywhere else. Opening Hours: Daily 11:30AM-10PM Queue Situation: No reservations. Expect to wait up to 15mins during lunch time and dinner time. No queue outside of the above timings. Price: SG$15 upwards per person Payment Mode: Cash and all Major Credit Cards (Physical & Paywave) Items Ordered: 1) Item: Cold Soba - Large Serving Description: Cold soba with tasty dipping sauce that was a little too wheaty to my liking Verdict: Acceptable, Order only if you want to try Price: SG$11.50 2) Item: Assorted Tempura - Self-picked - Mushroom, Tamago, Sliced Lotus Root, Crab Stick and Eggplant Description: Tasty crunchy tempura food that is enjoyable Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: Mushroom - SG$1.50 Tamago - SG$2 Sliced Lotus Root - SG$1.50 Crab Stick - SG$2.50 Eggplant - SG$1.50
