Except for the soft shell crab which was chewy and not that soft, the rest of the dishes were most delightful. Highly recommended is the unagi chawan which was very tasty and flavourful.

This is the one that I visit the most among the many Japanese food stores. Because their ingredients are very fresh and the environment is also good. Every time I taste their fresh sashimi, besides, their beef rice is also my favourite. If make an appointment in advance, you can also have the seat with good review by the window. The serving speed is also very fast. Every time I come to eat Japanese food, it is a very happy experience.

This franchise of the Japanese restaurant 'Sushi Tei' is located in VivoCity on level 2, and it takes up the space of two lots. The restaurant appears to look very classy with its view of the Singapore Straits, and a section of its interior having japanese culture incorporated into it. Not to mention the central area where the majority of sushi making occurs. There are different kinds of seating. For couples, a pair of dark wooden chairs. For groups of four and six, there is the area I mentioned above with the larger amount of Japanese designs or the areas with sofa seatings. There are dividers between tables and tables that are completely cut off from view of others. Lastly, they are clean and spacious. The restaurant is air-conditioned, well-lit, with a fair amount of noise and occasionally, there is a queue. Wet tissues are not free of charge but 20Β’ a pack. You get to place the order yourself without having to interact with servers until they bring you your food and drinks with an iPad displaying the entire menu as well as your bill. Staff are polite but really, not welcoming in a way save for the waitress who guided us to our seats from the stone pathway we were queueing along. We ordered for our beverages, hot green tea which was supposed to come with free of charge refills. We however, were not offered let alone poured any extra. For our food, we had the salmon sushi, curry ramen, soba and tempura prawns to list most of it. The soba tasted as expected. Refreshing, cold with the nori topping and the soba tsuyu was a perfect mix of its ingredients. The curry ramen smelt amazing. The portion size was of a large amount. The flavours of the curry for the ramen was just out of this world. I could not empty the bowl but I would definitely order it again. As for the salmon sushi, the fish was so fresh it tasted rich and creamy in the way fresh fish would taste. It was not soggy, nor did it have any fishy taste to it. The slices were thick and it essentially, melted in your mouth. I prefer my wasabi to have a burn to it. I was disappointed to find that this one really did not have any burn at all. Maybe, it was the variation of the wasabi or something else. But, I depend on it to get rid of the feeling of being full and could not get it from the wasabi provided. In this case, I had to make use of the green tea. I will visit the restaurant again, mostly for the soba, fish and the ramen.

Feeling hungry at Vivocity, decided to have dinner at Sushi Tei with Empress Dowager. Ordered up some favourites to enjoy as well as some items off the Winter Seasonal Menu. The Sashimi here are fresh as always although a bit pricier than elsewhere. The Tako Sashimi was slightly chewy but tasty. The Shishamo was grilled to a nice doneness without being burnt. The Ika Sugata Mentaiyaki unfortunately was too rubbery on biting while the Mentaiko was way too salty. The Unagi Kabayaki was tasty and succulent, with a nice level of doneness and sweetness. The Big Takoyaki was just a crispy shell with too much air and too little octopus, a real failure when compared to any Takoyaki Stall in Osaka. The Fuyu Ebi Tempura Roll, a seasonal dish, was a well-balanced dish with a wonderful mix of flavours and texture that is truly exquisite. Wanting to fill the tummy a bit, an order for the Fried Garlic Rice was made, which was tasty and gave a satisfying feel of comfort. Ended the meal with a Chawanmushi and Sushi Tei still does it well, with the smooth egg custard packed with ingredients. General Verdict: Izakaya serving quality dishes that are enjoyable with the occasional seasonal menu, but there are some dishes that are less than ideal Opening Hours: Daily 11:30am-10pm Queue Situation: Generally no queue but expect to wait 20mins to 30mins for a table from 6pm to 8:30pm, no reservations Price: SG$50++ upwards per person Payment Mode: Cash and all Major Credit Cards (Physical and Paywave) Items Ordered: 1) Tako Sashimi - Raw octopus Description: Chewy and tasty octopus Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$8.80++ 2) Shishamo - Grilled Smelt Description: A fish filled with roe that was tasty to eat Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$5++ 3) Ika Sugata Mentaiyaki - Grilled Squid with Cod Roe & Mayonnaise Sauce Description: The grilled Squid was a little rubbery while the Mentai was a tad salty Verdict: Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$11.80++ 4) Unagi Kabayaki - Grilled Eel Description: Tasty and succulent eel that is of the right doneness and sweetness Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$26.80++ 5) Big Takoyaki - Octopus Balls Description: Crispy shell that had too much air and not enough meat Verdict: Fail, Don't Waste Time Price: SG$5.50++ 6) Fuyu Ebi Tempura Roll (Seasonal Item) - Crab Stick and Cucumber Sushi Roll topped with Tartar Sauce-coated Deep Fried Shrimp Description: A well-balanced dish with a wonderful mix of flavours and texture that is truly exquisite Verdict: Very Good, Must Order Price: SG$12.80++ 7) Fried Garlic Rice - Served with Chicken and Spring Onion Description: Tasty fried rice dish that gave a satisfying feel of comfort Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$8.80++ 8) Chawanmushi - Steamed Egg Custard Description: A smooth egg Custard that was packed with ingredients and yummy flavours Verdict: Good, Can Order Price: SG$4.30++
