Good food, good service. Quiet restaurant in a central location along the Orchard belt. Highly recommend the gyu tan donabe (beef tongue claypot rice), the minced beef chawamushi, the momo, chicken oyster, tsukune.

Had the set lunch. It was fantastic! The wagyu melted in the mouth. The foie gras was one of the best, so smooth.

Tucked in the corner of Paragon, could easily missed this place. Made reservations for 4 and we got the private room to ourselves. We had sake and brought our own wine too (free corkage) That’s the good enough reason to return to this place. Food is really good - we had skewers, prawn miso (lobster bisque like), don, squid, pork loin, unagi claypot rice (tops!) I never eat unagi but really enjoyed it. Ended with raindrop cake and yuzu ice cream. Service by Jeanette is wonderful, she is attentive and polite. She is still getting the hang of things being a recent joinee but she demonstrated great hospitality and Japanese style! It was a fun night and we certainly look forward to coming back again! Some photos to share.

A nice Japanese restaurant located at Paragon on the 5th floor. The food taste delicious. If you want to try an authentic Japanese food, this place is a good place to try. The staffs were friendly, helpful and attentive.

Warning do not visit - blatant waste of time - the worst Japanese food I had this year - they don’t publicise that they’re by Sushi Tei if not I would never have patronised. Spent about 50 bucks per pax and kushiyaki was not marinated well and expensive, omurice was listed under the donburi section (super not authentic), and even Sushi Tei tastes better at 30-40% cheaper price - I’m pretty sure they would have shared a kitchen with sushi tei since they’re right next door. I complained to the waitress that the rice was burnt and she did nothing to acknowledge. The place was empty even on a weekend dinner slot. Place smells smokey. Given their limited menu it makes no excuse why their food tastes unauthentic and overwhelmingly subpar. There are better and actually authentic yakitori places to visit. This place would have been fine to visit during the heydays of Sakae sushi 20 years ago when that was the standard but seriously save your time, money and calories. I could have had a meal at aoki at the price I spent (bought just a few dishes and did not even order alcohol). Legit visit at your own risk.

Was in Paragon and time for dinner. Vaguely recalled reading about this joint and decided to check it out. The reception was kind enough to take us in without reservation, and had to return table an hour later. Ambience was classy and not overbearing. Service was fantastic as they guide you to your seats, taking your orders with clear explanation of the items on the menu, refilling your drinks timely without asking, and attentive to your needs. However, the food was a let down. Bacon with enoki, and bacon with asparagus were too salty. Chicken wings, chicken thigh, and chicken oyster skewers had seasoning that numbed the tongue and cant taste nothing else. Salmon belly had charred skin that should be removed. The black sauce that accompanied the squid was tasteless though the squid was perfectly grilled. The minced chicken had crunchy soft-bone mixed in it, nicely paired with the egg yolk sauce. The grilled prawn with ikura was tasty but the prawn head with stuffed rice had no umami at all. The yaki rice ball had crunchy exterior with mushy interior that was really contrasting. Not sure if it is just us, since there were good reviews from others. To each their own la.

A gem from sushi tei, Matsukiya looks independent at first glance but it’s in fact under sushi tei. The concept is grilled food and yakitori. I was pleasantly surprised by quality of yakitori that could equal places like tori tama. The chicken oyster, bonjiri, seseri, kawa and tebasaki was well done. Foie gras reasonably priced. Their donabe was nice too although the last time I was there, the rice got too over cooked. If it’s available, try the bone marrow donabe. The grilled iberico pork tastes like charred char siew. Went v well with our wine (no corkage!) Try the cold udon and chicken soup as well. Great starters. Received great service every time I’m there by the service crew. All round great place. Reserve a week in advance as the place is not too big.

Overall a pleasant meal at Matsukiya. A sushi tei concept store and offers a more exquisite fine dining experience. Many interesting dishes and a little fusion on its own. The food generally taste great. Some maybe stronger in flavour which you may not have experience before. But still pleasantly delicious. I would recommend this to be a place for dating for first dates and for a meet up lunch as vibe is really good
