Tokyo Sundubu - 252 North Bridge Rd

Found out online that this is one of the healthier choices for dinner bcos each Sundubu Jigae is 500 kcal and below. Read online that their waiters have knowledge regarding the food and they can explain to you, however when I asked one of the waiters, she looked at me with shocking eyes and said she doesn’t know. After she took my order, I heard she was joking at the kitchen with her colleagues saying how would she know the details and etc. They weren’t friendly too. The soups were okay, won’t come back again tho.

I didn’t know what it was at first. Thought it’s a new japanese dish. Then realised it’s actually Korean tofu but Japanese style. I actually prefer this version to the original Korean style. Miso soup with a bit of spice was just right. Nice balance and not too harsh on the palate. Tofu texture was dense yet silky.

Food was acceptable for a normal lunch. I concur with Rachel C’s earlier review about the broken clam shells. I bit into the broken bits multiple times during the meal. This is very dangerous and bad for customers’ teeth. Please look into improving this aspect. Service was as usual but I don’t expect much because I’m already aware of the low standards based on past experience.

Had the kurobuta pork + veg set. Felt that the pork was slightly tough. Ordered level 4 spicy but if u're a fan of spice, you wont find it spicy at all...it was just normal. I thought the soup was soso only for this price. Came cos my friends raved about it but didnt really lice up to its hype. And the reviews are right about the service

Food (chicken mushroom sundubu) : 9/10 Soup was really good, got level 4 and had a great kick. Tofu was soft and silky and ingredients i would consider not bad. (Scallop was fishy) HOWEVER! i found an eggshell in my soup and read a prior review with the same incident. Quite disappointed with this as it shows food quality is low. (Potato cheese pancake) : 10/10 really crispy and had great texture, highly recommend! Staff service : 4/10 the first guy who let us in looked lost and confused, frazzled even. But was not a bad server. The second guy who served us was very scary. I let my mask down to blow my nose and the moment i stopped and my mask was still down the guy came over and said "please put on your mask". I wouldn't say it was rude but very unfriendly. He also served us for the rest of the meal and did not seem nice at all. Overall : i like the food but not the service (a common point I've seen in the other reviews) would visit other branches as i like the food but not this branch again.

Was a bit confused. It called Tokyo Sundubu but serves Korea tofu soup, but plays mandarin songs in the restaurant!! Haha But nonetheless I had the beef tofu soup and is good. It’s not quite yet on par with SBCD Korean tofu but it’s still not bad We went rather late so they ran out of rice , but they compensated with extra tofu which was acceptable

Order their tofu soup and one potato cheese pancake as well. My non spicy soup is really quite delicious but the beef in the soup is mainly fats so that’s the disappointing part. Potato cheese pancake is actually chunks of potato with cheese and fried to crispy. Not the usual mashed potato pancake but still quite nice. Overall, it’s not bad but a bit pricey.

Very delicious names but unfortunately food is average and service is very hostile. The soup base is extremely thick, highly seasoned, and honestly you can’t taste the difference between all the many flavors they have. Its so thick so it honestly tasted like as though you are drinking a korean paste sauce seasoning directly, or like left over korean stew soup that’s been brewing for hours in a hotpot ? Tofu was good though. Chicken pancake - the chicken is very gluey like, and didn’t taste fresh. Look at the pinkish tone of the chicken ? Service - Male cashier/server is rather hostile. It’s was rather hilarious because he arranged the 4 different group of diners to be seated very closely to each other, leaving the other side of the restaurant totally empty. When one of the group felt awkward and requested to shift over/spread out, he declined. So the groups were pretty awkward sitting side by side, as though we are going to pass the food around to share. While I understand they wanted to maximize the other tables in case there are bigger groups, it was hilarious because there’s obviously more than enough space to spread us out and there were no more diners after that. Oh well, please do something about it
